quote of the day

"I never liked jazz because jazz music doesn't resolve. But I was outside the Bagdad Theater in Portland one night when I saw a man playing the saxophone. I stood there for fifteen minutes, and he never opened his eyes.

"After that I liked jazz music.

"Sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way.

"I used to not like God because God didn't resolve. But that was before any of this happened."

Lots of my friends have been reading this book. I managed to thumb through it once, and I was impressed. It's a good quote.

Wow, what a response. I guess I'll just have to finish it. Actually, I'm enjoying it. :) It just upgraded itself from bathroom book to carry-with-me-to-work book. Annie Dillard's *For Time Being* also just upgraded, from Mike's shelf to the status of bathroom book. Just so you know.

I'm diber's mom. I read that book, too, and I loved it. I read parts to my 18 yr old son and he gave me his 'full attention'! I recognized the quote right off.
