Talking Amongst Ourselves

In the line of fire
In the course of action
In the middle of nowhere
We are telling one another
That nothing is happening,
That those stories of death
Of women and children
Of alcohol and cocaine
Are not really happening,
Unless of course
They come up in conversation,
In which case they can prove as useful
As knowing the traffic report
or the forecast.

Thoughts

Powerful. So then, what do we do? How do I, as a student on this mountain, involve myself in the suffering of the world?

Have you read my posts for today? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Spend yourself on behalf of the suffering. Emotional, physical, spiritual and financial efforts for the weak and weary aren't spectacular things, as some people like to belive. They're acctually simple details that don't always depend on geographic location. Start with feeling. Do you feel for the hurting? Then move on from empathizing to becoming informed, another kind of work. Christians can move from that work to prayer, which can also be work. All these things are hard to do in extremis, but simple to do bit by bit. You don't have to jump into a 40-hour week of charitable volunteering right away. :) Get your feet wet first. That's enough to start with.
