being followed

i see people from my past on the metro
carrying familiar umbrellas on the street
drinking familiar drinks in a quiet cafe
waiting for someone else,
someone i don't know.

but the hair isn't right. the nose is wrong.
they have a funny walk that isn't the one
i remember from childhood, from campus,
from anywhere I've ever been.
i am now a master of the double-take.

you're different. you i get confused
with hedges, train schedules,
benches in the park.

streetlights laugh the way you laugh.
trees walk the way you walk.
and nowhere, ever,
can i shake the feeling
that it might have really been you.

I know the feeling. In China, I swore I saw my step-dad in a pick up truck once. That was erie.

Bob darling! Are you homesick?? Are you lonely!!?? Do you need me to come?? :-) I know the feeling, in fact I'm sure that somewhere in my blog I posted a similar poem. Please be thinking about England somewhere from January to April, cause that's when I'll be there. And if you want to come to Egypt after April for a few weeks, that'll be good (I think) because after that it's back to Chattavegas and Covenant for me.

Here's my poem, I browsed through my blog unti I found it. (It's not my best poem)

Faces
I see your face in the crowds
I see you in a smile, a frown,
I see you in passing, a momentary glimpse
And I plaster myself to the back of the taxi window
And for that moment, I remember
Other times, other places
Laughter, tears and goodbyes

You are no one in particular
You are different every time
You are people I saw every day
You are someone I don't see anymore

So sometimes I see your faces
A flash of recognition and it's gone
Remembrance streaks across my mind
Then fades months and miles away
