de vrijdagmarkt

Today's Friday. This is my market. I bought a goat cheese with herbs and some Leerdammer*, both for tomorrow night's dinner. And here's a thought scribbled down in the laundromat, yesterday: "Not journaling is like not doing laundry, in that one experiences an inverse relationship between need and motivation. It's like poetry or exercise or dishes or sorting one's trash for recycling – any of the things that require either cultivation of just plain force of habit."

Ain't it the truth. My kitchen still stinks from sorting the trash, and trash day was last Thursday. I'm sure those lingering odors could be a metaphor for something.

You know, I bet Brussels has deodorizing spray for that, just like the states :) Maybe I'll bring you some :)

I don't know. This trash was special. I had to clean old juice bottles, toss out spoiled yogurt (multi-fruit, at that), process a LOT of way-too-old coffee grounds, chicken bones, unidentified organic matter and gross lettuce.

All potentially manageable smells, I know. But the combination was particular.

Anyway, I cleaned the floors today. All better. Save room in that suitcase for W. Akins...

The Friday Mart? Sweet name. I was looking at my map of Brussels last night (yes I have a map of Brussels on my bedroom wall) and wondering which part of the city you lived in?

Oh and remember: Weet je wat ik wil? Een opblaaskrokodil!

sweet AND descriptive. that's what i like in a name. i'm living... somewhere. funny thing, my location is technically classified information. especially funny because i post pictures all the time of recognizable places.

so i'll probably modify these comments in about a day. i need to just go through the whole blog. all this "neutral researcher" stuff has mostly gone unheeded. the pictures will all stay, i imagine, but some of the specific terminology needs to go.

also, i have no idea what the prefix "opblaas-" does to krokodil, but i already know that i like it. just from the sound. i'm thinking of modifications one could make to a krokodil that would render it some sort of weapon, something unsuitable for carrying-on airplanes, for example.

dat is wat ik wil. een "krokodilblaaster!"
